What is a Heat Recovery Ventilator?
A heat recovery ventilator (HRV) is a component of a modern forced air system that allows fresh air into the home while also recovering the heat before it is blown outside. In the summer months, HRV systems are able to bypass the heat transfer and simply remove hot air from inside the home.

Why Add a Heat Recovery Ventilator to Your Home?
Having an airtight home has many energy efficiency benefits for maintaining your home’s temperature. In older, draftier homes, there were enough air leaks to unintentionally get fresh air into the home through windows, doors and other gaps. In newer homes or homes that have upgraded windows and doors, there may not be enough fresh air getting into the home and this can allow dust, allergens, and pollutants to build up. In new homes in BC, an HRV system is required as part of modern building codes.

Servicing a Heat Recovery Ventilator
Like many of your heating and cooling system components, annual service is recommended to retain efficiency and keep your equipment running smoothly. In new equipment, it will also be required to keep your warranty active. HRV systems also contain filters that should be regularly replaced to keep proper air flow.
